Joyce Madancy, associate professor
of history at Union College,
will deliver a talk titled “Constructing and Combating China's Opium Problem”
on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 11:30 a.m. in
the Reamer Campus Center Auditorium.

Her talk is free and open to the
public.

Madancy, who specializes in
imperial and early Republican China, joined the Union faculty in 1995. She earned
her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
She is the author of a number of articles and a forthcoming book, The Troublesome Legacy of Commissioner Lin:
The Opium Trade and Opium Suppression in
FujianProvince, 1820's to 1920's.
