Basketball freshmen Erika Eisenhut (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) and John Cagianello (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) and senior track standout Justin Sievert (Wyoming, MI/ New Paltz, NY), all earned recognition by the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association for their outstanding performances last week. Eisenhut and Cagianello were named the women's and men's basketball “Rookie of the Week” while Sievert was named the conference's “Male Track Athlete of the Week.”
Eisenhut, who was also a starter for the soccer team, which earned its fourth consecutive NCAA berth last fall, helped the Dutchwomen to a 2-1 week with league victories over Skidmore and Vassar with an overtime loss to Rensselaer. The 5'6 guard hit 14 of 27 field goals for the week (51.9%) with six rebounds, 13 assists, 14 steals and 32 points. Eisenhut scored 14 points against Skidmore, handed out six assists and scored a dozen points against Vassar, and has seven assists and six points against Rensselaer.

The men's team also enjoyed a 2-1 week with the only loss being a double overtime affair with Rensselaer. Cagianello finished the three games by hitting 19 of 40 field goals (47.5%), including 11 of 24 shots from three-point range (45.8%). The freshman guard was 11 of 12 from the free throw line (91.7%) and finished with 60 points. Cagianello scored 21 against Skidmore, 16 against Vassar and 23 against Rensselaer.
Sievert, meanwhile, not only defended his UCAA shot put title at the annual championship meet (which was held at Hamilton), he broke his own record of 15.53 meters with a throw of 16.04 meters. The performance earned Sievert the meet's “Most Valuable Field Performer” award.
It marked the second time this winter that all three of the above mentioned student-athletes have been recognized by the UCAA.
