Undermanned but determined, the women's swim team left on Wednesday for Nottingham High School (in the Rochester area) for the annual New York State Swimming and Diving Championships.

“We are heading to the meet undermanned,” said second-year head coach Scott Felix. “A conference championship meet allows teams to bring 17 swimmers and three divers. We are heading to the meet with a total of six swimmers and two divers. Our team motto is: “Small But Powerful.”

Sophomore Christina Duff (Westwood, MA/Westwood High/Kent School), looks to defend her championship in the 1650 freestyle event while improving her second-place finish in the 500 free. Sophomore Seana Phillips (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) took fourth in last year's 100 and 200 freestyle races while junior Catherine Cahill (Stony Creek, NY/Hadley-Luzerne) was fourth in the 200 butterfly and seventh in the 100 butterfly. Freshman Emily Slater (Branford, CT/Branford) is seeded in the top eight in the 100 and 200 backstroke events while senior Lauren Wander (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill) missed last year's championships while studying abroad, but is expected to challenge in the freestyle events. Senior Brinley Mooney (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) is hoping to improve her fifth place finish on both the one and three meter boards.

“We have remained positive when our numbers have been down,” said Felix. “I expect this small group of women to step up big against the entire conference.”

The meet will run from Thursday until late Saturday night.
