
Lacey French has been hired as the head field hockey coach at Union College, it was announced by
Val Belmonte, the College's Director of Athletics.
“We are very pleased to have Lacey join our staff,” said Belmonte. “She has an excellent background, both as a player and as an assistant coach, and a great deal of enthusiasm.”
French, who will begin her duties at Union effective July 1, is a 2001 graduate of Skidmore College where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science.
A four-year starter at Skidmore, French helped lead the Thoroughbreds' field hockey team to an overall record of 58-16. Her 1999 squad won the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association championship and her 1998 and 1999 teams both qualified for the NCAA Division III championship tournament.
Skidmore's fourth all-time leading scorer with 120 points, on 45 goals and 30 assists, French holds the Thoroughbreds' single-game assist record with four. Selected to the American Field Hockey Coaches Association National All-American First Team after both her junior and senior seasons, French was a participant in the North-South Senior All-Star game in 2000 and played for the Doncaster Field Hockey Club in England. French was also a Division III Regional All-American in the sport of lacrosse following the 1999 season.
An assistant at Middlebury College for both the field hockey and softball teams the last two years, French has attended and coached at several prestigious camps and clinics over the past several years, including the USFHA Coaching Clinic in Indio, California, the Nike Field Hockey Camp and the Merestead Sports Camp.
