The Council of Independent
Colleges and Universities is urging campus communities to use CICU's e-mail system to ask for Governor George Pataki's support of the Legislature's plan to save student aid.

The system will automatically
generate customized letters to the Governor, and send copies to you. The system
will also match you to your state legislators and send a message of
appreciation to those who voted yes last week to save student aid.
Abe Lackman,
CICU president, reported that last week the New York
State Senate (59 yes; 0 no; 3 excused) and the Assembly (110-35-5) voted to
fully restore funding to higher education programs such as TAP, HEOP, STEP/C-STEP,
and Liberty Partnerships. The governor must decide by Wednesday, May 14,
whether to veto or support these restorations.
