Mother Nature tried her best to wash out the day for the second year in a row, but a great Edison Club grounds crew and some dedicated golfers wouldn't let a little rain stand in the way. Despite the weather, the seventh annual Friends of Union Athletics Golf Classic was a huge success as more than 100 golfers turned out on a cool, wet and windy Monday morning. The men's division was won by the foursome of Charlie Mackey, Travis Feigenwinter, Mike McConkey and Joe Revella. The group combined to shoot a 13 under par 59. The coed division was won by the foursome of head women's basketball coach Mary Ellen Burt, head baseball coach and assistant football coach Gary Reynolds, Sally Hoy and Bud Baker. The group combined to shoot a three under par 69 on the par 72 Edison Club Course. Both the men's and coed divisions were played using a traditional scramble format.

“We are extremely happy that so many friends of the department were able to participate in the golf classic this year,” said Associate Director of Athletics Ramsey Baker. “With the help of our sponsors and the dedicated support of those individuals who braved the weather today we were able to raise funds that will help support all of our athletic programs and our more than 600 student-athletes.”

The Friends of Union Athletics organization is a booster club that helps support the college's 25 sports teams by supplementing the budget for purchases and expenses throughout the year. Members of the FOUA receive the Block U Report, the club's newsletter, four times each year, keeping them up to date with all of the Union teams and their successes.
