Schenectady, N.Y. (May 13, 2003) – The Union College Department of Athletics announced Thursday the 2003-04 men's hockey season schedule. The Dutchmen play 34 games during the 03-04 campaign against teams from all six NCAA Division I conferences, 17 of which will be home contests at Achilles Rink.

Highlighting the season are trips to Bowling Green of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) for a two-game series and the University of Wisconsin for the Badger Hockey Showdown featuring Wisconsin, Union, Ferris State and UMass-Lowell. Union will square off with host Wisconsin of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) in the first round of the holiday tournament to be held in Madison, Wisconsin.

Other away contests include single games with the University of New Hampshire from Hockey East, the 2003 NCAA Frozen Four Runner-up, and Niagara University from College Hockey America (CHA).

Union will host five non-conference schools in 2003-04 from the CHA, Hockey East, WCHA, and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Merrimack College will open up the season at Achilles Rink on October 18 as the Dutchmen will be a part of Union's Homecoming festivities for the first time in their Division I history. The second half of that weekend will be a matinee game on Sunday vs. American International College prior to the annual “Skate with the Dutchmen” to be held post-game.

The University of Minnesota-Duluth will travel to Schenectady for a pair of games in November. Their visit will mark the first time that Union has hosted a team from the WCHA as a DI team. Minnesota State-Mankato played at Union during the 1996-97 season prior to their admittance into the WCHA.

The Dutchmen will begin Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) play on the road vs. St. Lawrence and Clarkson November 7 and 8. They will host their first conference games the following weekend vs. Dartmouth and Vermont.

The annual Alumni Game is scheduled for February 7 when Union hosts the St. Lawrence Saints, and Senior Night will be held on February 21 vs. Cornell.

The Yale/Princeton road trip will close out the 2003-04 regular season for the Dutchmen.

“Our staff is really pleased with the challenging 2003-2004 schedule,” said Union head coach Kevin Sneddon. “As this program continues to grow, so must our challenges and this upcoming season certainly presents a higher degree of difficulty than years past. We tried to diversify our non-conference games by playing every conference, which will help prepare our team for another competitive year in the ECAC.”
