Senior defender, Brian Foy, won the Bryan T. Bakker Memorial Award. The award is presented annually to the member of the men's soccer team who displays the highest ideals of sportsmanship and leadership on and off the field.
Foy, a native of Poughkeepsie, New York and a graduate of Spackenkill High School, was co-captain of this year's squad. The three-year letterwinner is a mechanical engineering major.
Foy has helped the Dutchmen put together back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since since the 1992 and 1993 campaigns. The Garnet's 2002 record of 9-7-2 came on the heels of the 10-7 mark of the 2001 team. Union missed a chance to compete in the UCAA championship tournament when it suffered a 1-0 upset loss in the regular-season finale.
Foy, who is a mechanical engineer major with a mathematics minor, has been a member of the UCAA's All-Academic by maintaining at least a cumulative grade points average of 3.2. Freshmen are not eligible.
