Senior wide receiver, Ryan Gallo, Nels Nitchman Award. The award is presented to Union's outstanding performer in the annual football game against Coast Guard while conducting himself in a sportsman-like manner.

Gallo helped the Dutchmen to a 17-12 victory over the Bears by catching three passes for 21 yards, including an eight-year touchdown reception that helped Union to a 14-0 lead.

A native of Troy, New York, and a graduate of Catholic Central, Gallo established a Union single-season record with his 795 yards during the 2002 campaign. The
previous standard of 735 was set by Rich Swan, Class of 1970, in 1967. Gallo finished his brilliant career with 95 catches for 1,597 yards and 14 touchdowns while playing in just 28 varsity games. The political science major was the quarterback for the junior varsity team during his freshman campaign of 1999 and suffered a knee injury that forced him to miss the last three games of his junior year.
