Robert Fleischer, research professor of
geology, has been elected a Fellow to the Health Physics Society, an award
presented to senior members of the society “in recognition of their significant
administrative, educational, and scientific contributions to the profession of
health physics.” The society is the primary American organization for the study
of radiation protection and publisher of the journal Health Physics.,
The journal has published a number of articles by Fleischer and students about their research on neutron
dosimetry from the atomic bomb at Hiroshima
and the use of eyeglass lenses to measure radon exposures of individuals. The
honor is to be presented at the annual HPS meeting on July 22 in San
Diego.
