Charelle Carter '06

Charelle M. Carter '06, a biology, pre-med major from Schenectady,
received the Marshall G. Jones Scholarship from the Schenectady Silhouettes, a women's
community service organization, for her work in the community.

Carter was one of three students with local ties to receive the
scholarship at the organization's annual banquet recently.

A member of the volleyball team, she is also a frequent
player in intramurals. She has been a volunteer at the Hamilton Hill Arts
Center and Girls Inc. She is a graduate of Notre
Dame-Bishop Gibbons
High School, and a member of the Mt.
Olivet Missionary
Baptist Church.
After Union, she is planning to attend medical school
and pursue a career in sports medicine.

“Charelle has always impressed me with her work ethic and
her desire to strive to do her best,” said Sandy Collins, head volleyball
coach.

Established in 2000, the Marshall G. Jones Scholarship
honors the researcher at the GE Corporate Research Center in Niskayuna.
Jones, who holds 45 U.S.
patents, has served as a mentor to a number of local youth.
