Robert Baker, professor
of philosophy and director of the Center for Bioethics, directed a one-day session, “Ancient and Modern Conceptions of Death and Dying,” this summer as
part of the New York University Faculty Resource Network's Practical Ethics
Workshop. The week-long workshop was
designed to teach non-philosophers how to introduce ethical subjects into their
courses. Last spring, Baker presented a paper, “E-Consultation: Ethics Consultation
over the Internet,” at a conference, “Clinical Ethics Consultation: First
International Assessment Summit,” in Cleveland.
He also recently presented a paper, “British and American Conceptions of
Medical Ethics, 1847-1947,” as part of a conference in London on Anglo-American
Medical Relations: Historical Insights. It was sponsored by the Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at
University College London in honor of Sir Henry Wellcome's
150th birthday.
