Kelly Chlopecki had an adventure
in banking that most financial institutions would not include in their
advertising.
Chlopecki, a member of the
College's grounds department since 1965, was a key witness in an armed robbery
of the Pioneer Savings Bank in Clifton
Park on Sept. 29.
“This guy is robbing the bank,” he
quietly told his wife as he escorted her out.
Once outside, he tracked the
masked gunman's vehicle and reported it to police. The suspect was quickly
apprehended a few miles from the bank, which is at the intersection of routes
146 and 146A. The suspect had stolen about $5,000, police said. No one was
injured.
Days later, bank officials paid a
call on Chlopecki at home, bringing a gift basket and a reward of $1,000.
A loyal customer, Chlopecki says
he plans to continue his business with the bank, but with one condition: “From
now on, I'm using the drive-through.”
