Prof. Cox named to board of Schenectady Museum

professor of visual arts, has joined the Board of Trustees of the Schenectady
Museum, serving a three-year
appointment on the Programming, Diversity and Strategic Planning Committee. Brad Lewis, professor of economics, joined
the museum's board last year.

Prof. Meade gives talk at Vassar College

Teresa
Meade
, professor
of history and director of Women's Studies, published a review essay, “Labor
and Gender in the Chilean Town
and Country,” in a special issue of the Journal of Women's History, on
“Women's Labors” (Winter 2004). Meade also spoke at Vassar
College on “Relaxing Matters:
Sport, Music and Television in Recent Brazilian History” as a part of the preparation
for a Vassar study-term in Brazil. The
class had read Meade's book, “Civilizing” Rio:
Reform and Resistance in a
BrazilianCity, 1888-1930, and
had the author in for an extended discussion, followed by a public lecture. Meade
also spoke recently on “Good Neighbors at Last? Popular Culture in Latin
America and the U.S.” at the University of Maryland-College Park, where she was
the guest of the Center for Historical Studies and the Center for Latin
American Studies.

After budget presentations, P & P seeks feedback

As a
follow-up to budget presentations made to the campus by Vice President for
Finance and Administration Diane Blake, the Planning and Priorities Committee
has created a feedback system on the web. The site (http://www.union.edu/AboutTheBudget) includes a question-and-answer discussion of
the 2004-2005 budget and a suggestion box for ideas. The committee says that it
hopes that enhancing the campus community's understanding of institutional
needs and budget constraints will further improve the College's
budget-preparation process.
