Hammond & White share Cuttita-Havercamp award as top frosh

Freshmen, Krystal Hammond and Colleen White,
were named co-recipients of this year's Terri Lynch-Jackie Havercamp Cuttita
Memorial Award
. The award, which is being presented for the 24th year, is
presented to the freshman female student-athlete who has shown desire,
dedication, sportsmanship, and inspirational leadership on the field of
competition as well as in her daily life.

Hammond, a native of Clifton Park,
New York, and a graduate of Shenendehowa High School, and White, a native of Westport, Connecticut, and a graduate of Staples High School, each led her respective teams to the NCAA
tournament.  Hammond's basketball team qualified for the national event for the
first time in the program's 29-year history of the sport while White's softball
squad earned its second-straight NCAA invitation.

Both teams won the Upstate Collegiate Athletic
Association championship.  The basketball
Dutchwomen were 13-1 in conference play and a program-record 24-4 overall.  The softball Dutchwomen were 7-1 in the UCAA
and 25-5 overall.

Hammond, a forward, finished fourth on the team's
statistical chart with her 6.7 scoring average and placed fifth in rebounding
with her 3.7 average.  She was named the
UCAA “Rookie of the Week” once during the season.

White, who plays second base, finished second on
the Dutchwomen's batting chart with her .366 average.  She led the team with 23 RBIs and eight
doubles, and was second in base hits (34) and third in runs scored with
21.  White was also among the team's
fielding leaders with her .963 average.

This is only the second time in the history of
the award that it has been shared.  Twin
sisters Molly and Elizabeth Flanagan (Simsbury, CT/Loomis
Chaffee) shared the honor in 2002.

Jordan Webb captures the William A. Pike Award as Union’s top junior male athlete of the year

Jordan Webb

Junior ice hockey forward, Jordan Webb, captured
the William A. Pike Memorial Trophy. The trophy is presented to a
junior male athlete for attitude, ability, participation, and achievement in
intercollegiate sports.

Webb, a native of Nepean, Ontario, has been the Dutchmen's
leading scorer each of the last two seasons. 
This year he scored 13 goals and 30 points after producing 17 goals and
37 points as a sophomore.  He will enter
his senior campaign having scored 85 points on 38 goals and 47 assists in 102
career games.

Jamie Laubisch is named Union’s outstanding junior female athlete of the year

Junior
defense woman, Jamie Laubisch, earned the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Medal of Merit as Union's “Outstanding Junior Female Athlete of the Year.”
The medal is presented to the junior
female athlete who has combined excellence on the fields of competition with
excellence in the classroom or outstanding service to the college.

A three-year starter and
three-year co-captain, Laubisch has scored eight goals and 23 points in 84
career games.  A member of the American
Women's Hockey Coaches' Association Scholar All-American team,
Laubisch is a three-year winner of the Dutchwomen's Hana Yamashita Commitment
Award, which is presented to the player who best emulates the passion and
commitment that Hana Yamashita Class of '97, demonstrated in helping to move
women's ice hockey from club to varsity. 

Laubisch
helped the Dutchwomen move from its five-year Division III roots to Division I
status in 2003-04.

Stephanie Molé wins the Ridings Award as the top senior female athlete

Senior soccer midfielder, Stephanie Molé,
completed her outstanding career by being awarded the Robert M. Ridings
Award
. The award is presented to the senior female athlete for her
attitude, ability, participation, and achievement in intercollegiate sports
.

Molé, an economics major from Newton, Massachusetts, was a member of the
Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association's All-Conference, First-Team after
helping the Dutchwomen capture the UCAA's regular-season and postseason
tournament title. Union, which posted an overall record of 19-2-1 in 2003, qualified for the NCAA National Championship
Tournament for the fifth consecutive year. A three-year starter and four-year
letterwinner for the Dutchwomen, Molé has also been a member of the UCAA's
All-Academic team the last three years (freshmen are not eligible) by
maintaining at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average.

A third-team All-American this year and a member of the All-Region first-team,
Moléhelped the Dutchwomen compile a four-year record of 61-12-4. A converted
forward, Molé was a first-team all-conference selection after she led the
Dutchwomen in scoring during her sophomore season with 13 goals and 31 points.

Last year Molé earned the Eastern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Medal of Merit as Union's “Outstanding Junior
Female Athlete of the Year.” The medal is presented to the junior female
athlete who has combined excellence on the fields of competition with
excellence in the classroom or outstanding service to the college.

Sean Washington earns Jaffe Medal as Union’s top senior male athlete

Senior football and track standout, Sean
Washington
, was awarded the William B. Jaffe Medal. The award is
presented to the senior male athlete voted by the athletic department to be the
outstanding athlete of the year, while taking into account the character and
motivation of the individual in addition to athletic excellence.

Washington, who missed his freshman year after
breaking his leg during the football preseason, will find out next week if he
has qualified for the NCAA outdoor meet. 
He was a three-year standout as a return specialist and tailback for the
football team and has been a regular qualifier for the NCAA National
Championship Meet in both the 55 meter and 100 meter dash for both the indoor
and outdoor seasons throughout his outstanding career. Already an All-American
in track and holder of several of Union's sprint records, Washington is the reigning New York
State and Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association champion in
his events.  He was named the
conference's “Outstanding Track Performer” following the indoor season. 
As a member of the football team, Washington was an All-Conference special teams
member as a return specialist. 

A managerial economics major, Washington was the recipient of the 2002 Sophomore Athletic Award as Union's
“Outstanding Sophomore Male Athlete of the Year,” and last season captured
the William A. Pike Memorial Trophy.
The trophy is presented to a junior
male athlete for attitude, ability, participation, and achievement in
intercollegiate sports.

A native of Dale City, Virginia, and a graduate of Saint Stephens,
Washington will find out next week if he has qualified for the upcoming
NCAA Outdoor championships.  He was presented the 2004 Director's Award as
the outstanding senior athlete at the annual senior appreciation dinner.
