Profession: Retired manager of Corporate Steel Purchasing, General Electric Co.

Union hours: Alumni Gold Medal, 1989; Term Trustee, 1993-97; Trustee Emeritus

Faculty member who had the greatest impact: Psychology professor Dr. Ernest Ligon. “He made it all very interesting, especially industrial psychology.”

Proud Union moment: Being awarded the Alumni Gold Medal. “After retiring, I served on many Union committees and enjoyed being active on campus. When awarded the medal, I was surprised and pleased at the honor and recognition of my efforts.”

Humorous Union moment: “Freshman year, 1942, I was talking with the steward of my fraternity, and he had to have fish on Friday, so we decided to get lobsters for all 30 members. I'd been lobstering for years, since junior high and all through high school, on Baker's Island, six miles off Salem, Mass. I had to teach 30 guys how to crack and eat a lobster since most had never before had a whole lobster. It was hilarious and quite messy!”

Legacy on campus: Made possible the renovation of the former Parker-Rice House as Abbe Hall, the College's new alumni center
and home of the Office of College Relations.

Advice to students: “Always speak well of the College. It's easy to be critical, but other colleges are no more perfect than we.”

Hobbies: Home repair, skiing, boating, pottery

Favorite way to relax: “I like to go out in the middle of Lake George or Salem Bay, shut down the engine and just drift, enjoying the sun and silence.”

Favorite book: The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger
