Seniors Matt Acciani (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East High
School), Ryan McAleese (Walpole, MA/Walpole) and Mark Susko (Short Hills,
NJ/Pingry School) have been named captains for the 2005 men's soccer team it
was announced by head coach Jeff Guinn. Acciani and McAleese are both defenders
while Susko is a midfielder.
“These guys have been the backbone of the program the last
three years and I know they will provide us with outstanding leadership during
the upcoming season,” said head coach Jeff Guinn, who enters his ninth season
at the helm.
The Dutchmen, who have posted a record of 28-21-4, in the
last three years, were 10-7-1 in 2004.
Union, which finished third in the Liberty League, qualified for the
conference's postseason tournament for the first time ever and picked up the
program's first Eastern College Athletic Conference Upstate New York Tournament
invitation since 1993. The 2004
campaign marked the first four-year string in which the team has had a winning
season since the 1983, 94, 85, and 86 seasons.

“We have a good group of players returning and I know that
the experience and leadership provided by Matt, Ryan and Mark will go along way
in helping us achieve our team goals throughout the 2005 campaign,” said Guinn, whose next win will be the 60th of his career…all at Union.
