George Gmelch,
professor of anthropology, published an essay, “West Indian Migrants and their
Rediscovery of Barbados” in Coming
Home: Refugees, Migrants, and Those Who Stayed Behind (eds. L. Long and E. Oxfeld) published by the University of Pennsylvania Press.
The essay looks at the social impacts and adjustment of returning migrants to Barbados after many years spent abroad in the U.S. and U.K. Also, last year, six of his previously
published articles were reprinted in anthologies in anthropology, religious
studies and sociology. They were: “Lessons from the Field,” “Baseball Wives: Work
and Gender in Professional Baseball,” “Baseball Magic,” “Nomads in Cities,” “Barbadian
Migrants Abroad and at Home” and “Crossing Cultures.”
