Fuel-cell powered Honda car makes stop at Union College
Presentation on alternative fuel vehicles set for
Feb. 16 at the F.W Olin Center
Honda's latest alternative fuel
vehicle – the FCX hydrogen-powered fuel cell car – will be on display at Union College during an event on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at the F.W. Olin Center from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Barry Carr, vice president of
alternative fuels for Homeland Energy Resources Development Inc., will discuss
the use of alternative fuel vehicles and Lawrence D'Arco, environmental
specialist with the State Department of Environmental Conservation, will give
an overview of state initiatives involving clean cars.
Last fall, Gov. George Pataki announced the state's lease of two of the Honda vehicles, adding to the state's growing
fleet of alternative fuel vehicles. New York was the first state to operate
these types of vehicles in the Northeast. The first vehicle was delivered in
December; the second will be on the road in mid-2005. They are being used for
regular, daily state operations.
Also on the event's agenda will
be Union engineering professor Ronald Bucinell who will discuss the College's
development of an energy research initiative focusing on the cluster of
alternative energy-related businesses in the region. Robert Kozik, dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science at the Graduate College of Union University (GCUU),
will talk about initiatives to support Tech Valley industries, including the introduction
of energy systems courses and the development of a Master's degree in
Engineering and Management Studies.
The event is sponsored by the
Capital Region Association of Energy Engineers, Union College and the GCUU.
The presentation will include a
light dinner. Tickets are $10 for members of the Capital Region Association of
Energy Engineers, $15 for non-members and $5 for students. Call Todd Baldyga of
