Union College's Kenney Community Center is hosting the annual U-Care Day for Schenectady youth on Sunday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Memorial Fieldhouse. The event is free and open to children 12 and under (adults should accompany all children).

Coordinated by Union student groups from across campus, the carnival-like event features such attractions as “Mr. Bouncy Bounce,” a petting zoo, a soccer clinic, basketball shoot, face painting, spin art, and, of course, food — cotton candy, snow cones, and barbecued dogs and burgers are all on the house.

Latoya Roper, a Union freshman who is co-chairing the event, said the main goal of the event is fun. “We are expecting upwards of 500 children and their parents as well as about 100 student and Union staff volunteers, and everyone will have fun!” she said. “This is a great way for Union students to get to know the community better and get involved.” Sophomore Karolina Cikowska is also chairing the event.

In addition to the College and a number of its Greek Society members, participating sponsors include Price Chopper, Wal-Mart, and Stewart's Shops.
