Recent gifts, grants, and bequests received by the College
Upon the death of the income beneficiary, Union College received the unrestricted proceeds from a trust established by the late David H. Burr '27.
Marvin Katz '37 made a gift to benefit the Jewish Chaplaincy Endowment. Mr. Katz is a longtime supporter of the College.
A distribution from a pooled life income fund established by the late William J. Male '38 was added to the fund to create the Charles T. and Mildred S. Male Professorship in Mathematics.
An unrestricted gift from the estate of Renato C. Pomatti '39 was received. Mr. Pomatti majored in chemistry and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Union College.
Edgar '40 and Margaret Sandman established a charitable gift annuity.
Mr. Sandman received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Union College and a J.D. from Albany Law School in 1946. He and his wife reside in Naples, Florida. An unrestricted bequest was received from the estate of Paul W. Becker '41. Mr. Becker received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Union College and master's degree from Harvard University in 1942.
An unrestricted distribution was received from two charitable gift annuities that the late Wendell Bryce '48 established. Dr. Bryce was a pre-med major and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Union College in 1948.
Charles H. Lewis '50 established a charitable gift annuity. Mr. Lewis received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Union College and a JD from Albany Law School in 1956.
A partial distribution was made from the estate of Lucille Clancy to be used to establish the Madison E. Brainard '11 Scholarship Fund, in memory of her late brother-in-law.
A distribution from the Marie S. Nitchman Trust established the Dr. Donald '33 and Marie Nitchman Scholarship. The earnings from this fund are to be awarded annually to “students pursuing courses in premedical studies who, along with scholastic excellence, most significantly show promise of compassion and selflessness, and who require financial assistance to attend the College.”
