Seward Memorial – Class of 2000 gift

A boulder from near Seward Highway in Alaska recently traveled to Seward Place in Schenectady where it rests in honor of William Henry Seward.

An 1820 graduate of Union College, Seward is perhaps best known for engineering the $7.2 million United States purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867.

As a parting gift to the College and the city, the Class of 2000 set out to honor one of Union's most prominent alumni. Five years later, the project is to be completed in time for the 204th anniversary of Seward's birth on May 16.

The Class of 2000 will dedicate the memorial at its five-year ReUnion on Saturday, May 21, at 2 p.m.
