Schaffer Library wins ‘Be Innovative’ award

Schaffer Library has won the Be Innovative! Award for “Most Innovative Public Access Application” from Innovative Interfaces, Inc., a producer of integrated library systems software, and officers of the Innovative Users Group.


The award recognizes the overall design of the Library's website and custom features such as the new acquisitions list, thesis search capability, and interactive maps as well as the Library's “effective and creative use” of Innovative Interfaces products.


Thirty-nine library sites were entered in the competition.


Judging was by a panel of representatives from Innovative and officers of the IUG.


David Fuller, systems librarian and chair of the Library Web Opac Committee, accepted the award at the IUG Conference in San Francisco. He also presented an invited poster session with Bruce Connolly, reference librarian, titled “Mainstreaming Millennium: Positioning the Web Opac at the Center of the Research Process.” Lorie Wies, acquisitions librarian, and Gail Golderman, electronic media librarian and chair of the Library Web Design Committee, presented a poster session on “From Access to Electronic Resource Management.”

Duo to give concert-lecture on 20th C. American music

Violinist Kia-Hui Tan and pianist Blaise Bryski will give a lecture-recital on 20th-century American music on Friday, May 13, at 1:45 p.m. in Arts 215.


They will perform and discuss music by Charles Ives, John Corigliano and George Gershwin.


The event, open to all, is part of Prof. Tim Olsen's 20th-Century American Music.

Softball, women’s lax headed to NCAAs

Two teams – women's lacrosse and softball – will put their incredible records to the test in NCAA tournament play.


Softball (30-4) is ranked #8 in the latest NFCA poll and the top seed for the NCAA Division III Softball Championship regionals in Ithaca. The Dutchwomen will face either Ithaca or Misericordia Friday, May 13, at 2 p.m. The regionals will continue through Sunday, May 15, with a rain date on Monday, May 16.


Women's lacrosse (13-3) and ranked #16 in the IWLCA poll, will face #5 Colorado College (10-1) in the regionals of the 2005 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship. The game will be played Saturday, May 14, at 2:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. Eastern) in Colorado Springs. In the other regional game, Cortland (17-1) will face Cabrini (12-6) at 11:30 a.m. local time. The title game is set for Sunday, May 15, at 1 p.m. (3 p.m. Eastern).

Admissions sets sessions on diversity recruiting

Admissions officers will host two interactive sessions for the campus community –  “Recruiting Quality and Diversity” – on Wednesday, May 18, at noon and 4 p.m. in the Reamer Campus Center Auditorium.


Dan Lundquist, vice president for admissions, and other Grant Hall staffers will explain “what we do, why we do it, how we do it.”


The sessions will feature a statistical and historical overview; targeting audiences and messages; prospect generation; off- and on-campus outreach; alumni, faculty, staff and student support; and the role of financial aid.
