City of Schenectady hosts 'Welcome Back Day'
for Union College community
The City of Schenectady is hosting the first annual 'Welcome Back Day' on Saturday, September 10, 2005 from 12 – 6 p.m. at various locations throughout the downtown area. Food, music, dancing, art exhibits and discounts await all Union College faculty, staff and students who show their college ID cards at participating venues, restaurants and stores.
This event is sponsored by Union College's Kenney Community Center, the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation and the Chamber of Schenectady County. The day is intended to introduce new and returning members of the Union community to Schenectady's many offerings.
The college will provide free trolley service to all sites from the Union College Circle at Old Chapel and College Park Hall. Walking maps will also be made available, as most locations are within walking distance from the college.
Events scheduled for the day include:
- The Greek Festival – live entertainment, homemade Greek specialties, dancing, & more (St. George's Greek Orthodox Church – Clinton Street)
- The 54th Annual Stockade Villager's Art Show– Northeast's Oldest Outdoor Art Show (located in the Stockade Neighborhood)
- Jay Street – unique shops and restaurants
- Black Dimensions in Art presents Stanwyck Cromwell's Caribbean Art @ Schenectady Museum (15 Nott Terrace Heights)
- Center City Sportsplex – Freerock climbing w/ Union ID ( 433 State Street)
- Proctor's Theatre presents STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH. Showtimes at 4:30 & 7:30 p.m. – Also free with Union College ID (432 State Street)
- Experience & Creative Design presents “Artsplosure” at their Open House – 'Schenectady's largest Interior Design Center' (510 Union Street)
