Stephen Charles Ainlay, the vice president for academic affairs and professor of sociology and anthropology at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., was named president of Union College this morning.
The selection of Ainlay was announced by Stephen J. Ciesinski, chairman of the school's board of trustees.
Ainlay, 54, succeeds Roger Hull, who stepped down in June after 15 years as president. Ainlay is the 18th president of the college, which was founded in 1795. He will take over no later than June 2006.
