Coretta Scott King

In a letter to the Union College campus community, Interim President, Jim Underwood requested that the Union community collectively offer its condolences to the King family, in honor of the passing of Coretta Scott King.

Civil rights activist Martin Luther King III recently spoke at Union during the week celebrating his father's legacy. In the Jan. 18 campus visit, the son of Coretta Scott King and Martin Luther King Jr. urged his Union audience to help keep his father's dream of racial equality for all alive.

“Since we recently opened our doors to hear him speak, I thought it would be fitting to send condolences,” Underwood noted.

He urged that all cards, poems and messages of sympathy be sent via campus mail to Gretchel Tyson at the Kenney Community Center by February 6. Those wishing to make a donation can make checks payable to The King Center. For more information, visit www.thekingcenter.org.
