“Mirror of the Soul” a 40-minute stage adaptation of Milan Kundera's masterpiece, “The Unbearable Lightness of Being,” written and directed by senior Rebecca Hutton, will be staged Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11, at 7 and 9 p.m. in the Yulman Theatre.
Performances are free and open to the public, but seating is limited to 15 persons per show.
“An experimental piece of theatre, the show itself is a dream the audience is having,” says the director, “and they follow its progression through the Yulman Theatre basement set.”
Advisor for the project is Artist-in-Residence Joann Yarrow, and the show's technical director is Cooper Braun-Enos '06.
The cast includes students Carly Hirschberg '06, Joey Hunziker '08, Aneesah Dambreville '06, and Victor Cardinali '08, members of metaTheatre, a student acting company.
“We started out in a workshop setting last term developing ideas for the show,” says Hutton. “Though I conceived the concept for the production in the fall, many of the ideas for scenes have developed in rehearsals through collaboration with the talented actors in this cast.”
