An opening reception for a new photographic exhibit at Union College will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in the Nott Memorial, 807 Union St.

The exhibit, titled “The Athenian Acropolis: Photographs by William James Stillman, An Exhibition in Memory of Professor Christina Elliot Sorum,” will be on display from opening night until June 11.

Stillman was born in Schenectady in 1828 and graduated from Union College in 1848.

The exhibit will feature photographic reproductions of Stillman's photographs of the Athenian Acropolis from the college's collection. It will also include a selection of original photography albums, letters and other printed works by the artist.

The exhibition and opening lecture by Andrew Szegedy-Maszak are dedicated to the memory of Christina Elliot Sorum, who died in 2005. Sorum was the Frank Bailey Professor of Classics, dean of the faculty and vice president for academic affairs at the college.

The Nott Memorial is free and open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
