James Underwood, Union College's transition president between the now-retired Roger Hull and the not-yet-arrived Stephen Ainlay, will be the commencement speaker at the Schenectady, N.Y., college's graduation ceremony on Sunday, June 11.
About 500 students will receive their degrees that day at the ceremony on the college's Hull Plaza. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.
Underwood, 68, has been a member of the college's faculty since 1963, and he has also served in several administrative capacities at the school. He has been acting president of Union since Hull retired after 15 years in spring 2005.
On July 1, 2006, Ainlay will take over as Union College's 18th president. He is a professor and administrator at Holy Cross college in Worcester, Mass.
