Ashraf Ghaly, professor of engineering, has been selected as a Fulbright scholar grantee to Egypt as part of the 2006-07 Fulbright Scholar Program. The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) is the presidentially appointed 12-member Board that is responsible for establishing worldwide policies for the program and for selection of Fulbright recipients. The host institution is The Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC) in Cairo, a center of excellence for specialized research related to the housing and building industries.

Eighty percent of Ghaly's grant time will be devoted to conducting research on “Combating Waste Disposal Problems by Implementing Environmentally Friendly Recycling Techniques in Developing Materials Useful in Engineering Applications”. The rest of his time will go toward giving talks at public and private universities and to consultation with faculty and researchers.
