Ingrid Mattson, ISNA, Islamic Society

Ingrid Mattson, the new president of the North American Islamic Society, will give a lecture on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 5 p.m. in the Nott Memorial. Her talk, “The Challenge of Diversity in the American Muslim Community,” is free and open to the public.

Dinner will follow the lecture at 6:30 in Hale House and Everest. In addition, Mattson will be available for an informal discussion with students and faculty at 3 p.m. on the topic,  “Women and Islam.”  This event will take place in the Women's Study Lounge on the 4th floor of Reamer Center. It is sponsored by Campus Protestant Ministry, The Muslim Student Association and Women's Union.

“Ingrid Mattson is a celebrated leader in Islam,” said the Rev. Viki Brooks-McDonald, campus Protestant minister and interfaith chaplain at the College. “Her presence will offer students and the community a chance to hear from a well-respected Islamic scholar who is very good at dispelling the myths and misinformation that cloud our understanding of her faith tradition.”

Mattson is professor of Islamic Studies and director of Islamic Chaplaincy at the Macdonald Center for Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations at Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Conn. Her appearance is sponsored by the Campus Protestant Ministry and the Muslim Student Association.

ISNA, established in 1963, is the largest religious organization representing Muslims in North America.
