Michele Ricci, assistant professor of German, recently received a prestigious grant from the parliament of Berlin (Studienstiftung des Abgeordneten Hauses von Berlin) to support her research for a book she is writing on East German political cabaret. Ricci's project analyzes five political cabarets located throughout former East Germany, assessing institutional and aesthetic transformations brought about after Unification. She considers the ways that changes to production and reception have allowed these institutions to remain culturally influential and economically viable.
