Next week’s faculty meeting (Tuesday, Nov. 7) will focus on campus climate, following up on Friday’s anti-hate rally outside the Nott Memorial that protested threatening e-mails sent to two students.

Speaking at the student-organized rally, President Stephen Ainlay told the crowd of about 300 students, faculty and staff that he shared their outrage and would do all he could to help police catch the culprit.

Others who spoke included Naeem Muhammad ’08, chairman of the African/Latino Alliance and president of Alpha Phi Alpha; Elizabeth Favorito ’07 of Spectrum; Max Zimbert ’07, president of the Interfraternal Council and member of DKE; Mike Grady ’07, Student Forum member; Melanie Gonzalez '09; Shanique Kerr '09; Stephen Leavitt, dean of students; and Teresa Meade, History chair.

Also on Friday, Ainlay announced plans to create a forum to address issues of campus culture and expressed gratitude to the rally organizers for creating "an opportunity for the collective expression of our community’s outrage against the hateful acts that have occurred on our campus.

"May this be the inspiration for further action and expression of our zero tolerance of hate at Union… I am deeply committed to building a more diverse and civil Union. We cannot and will not tolerate hate."
