David Finckel and Wu Han

Cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han present “A Portrait of Romanticism: Lyric Works for Cello and Piano” at Memorial Chapel Sunday, Jan. 7 at 3 p.m. Appointed directors of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in 2004, Finckel and Han will be returning for their 15th concert series recital.

The program traces the Romantic period's influential path of music throughout the 19th century. The stage is set with Franz Schubert's sonata in a minor, ‘Apreggione,' moves into the height of the Romantic era with the sonatas of Richard Strauss and Edvard Grieg and concludes with Serge Rachmaninov's ‘Vocalise.'

Finckel and Han have appeared internationally at some of the most prestigious venues and concert series. Highlights from recent seasons include their debuts in Germany and at Finland's Khumu Festival, their presentation of the complete Beethoven cycle in Tokyo and their signature all-Russian program at London's Wigmore Hall.

The two are co-founders and artistic directors of Music@Menlo, a chamber music festival in Silicon Valley, and they successfully launched Artist Led, a musician-directed and Internet-based recording company that has produced nine recordings of critical acclaim.

Finckel and Han taught alongside the late Isaac Stern at Carnegie Hall and the Jerusalem Music Center. They appear annually on the Aspen Music Festival's Distinguished Artist Master Class series and in various educational outreach programs across the country.
