The Peer Assistants for Learning (PALs) / Minerva Mentors Program gives students an opportunity to meet and interact on a regular basis with an upperclass student, who can help them negotiate their way through the College. To date, those students who have taken advantage of the program have benefited in tangible ways. This term, there will be workshops this term on a number of topics, including the lab sciences (specifically for first-year students); negotiating pre-registration and Gen Ed, how to present oneself effectively and how to make the most of what Union has to offer. To find out more, visit http:mentors.union.edu. Questions? Contact Dean for Undergraduate Education Kimmo Rosenthal atrosenthk@union.edu or Director of Student Support Services Shelly Shinebarger at shinebas@union.edu. As the term progresses, if you notice students or advisees who are struggling in your classes on quizzes/exams, are having trouble getting their work in on time, or exhibit signs of anxiety or stress or social pressure, please refer them to the program. They can request a PAL directly at the Web site.
