Once again, Union’s faculty and staff helped brighten the holiday season for local families.

Once again this holiday season, Union College employees gave an abundance of gifts to help local families in need.

“This year, so many more people stepped up,” said Kathy McCann, director of college relations data systems. “We had 76 people sponsoring 68 people from 18 families. Last year, we had 40 people sponsoring 80 people.”

The College has worked with the Schenectady Department of Social Services for about a dozen years, each season bringing gifts, food and cleaning supplies to families in need.

This year, while helping coordinate the effort, McCann experienced something she’ll always cherish.

“I was particularly touched by the number of people who were ‘giving back’ to the organization that assisted their own family in the past,” she said. “I had four or five people say, ‘These are the people who helped me once.’”

“I’m grateful we were able to demonstrate that Union College is fully invested in being a good neighbor,” McCann added.
