Want to do something fun, funky and philanthropic? Put a pink streak in your hair like seniors Lori Cassorla and Lindsey Goldberg. The two women are presidents of Union’s Colleges Against Cancer chapter, and by bringing “The Pink Hair Tour” to campus, they’re hoping to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

A stylist puts the finishing touches on a pink hair extension for Lori Cassorla '10.

The tour kicked off Thursday in Reamer Campus Center, with Rumors Salon of Latham offering pink hair extensions for $10 each. This Wednesday, Oct. 14, Hair Razors Salon of Schenectady will do the same from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

“We think this tour, which the salons participate in all month all over the region, is a really great idea,” Cassorla said. “All the money goes to a local organization – The Neil and Jane Golub Breast Cancer Center at Bellevue.”

“The tour is a great way to do a good thing and work with businesses in the local community,” Goldberg added.

Last year, the campus’s participation in the pink tresses campaign raised over $1,000 for the Golub Breast Cancer Center. This time around, Cassorla and Goldberg are hoping to amass more money with some help from their friends.

Culinary House hosted a bake sale on Thursday, with everything from pink ribbon cookies to pink frosted cupcakes, and it’ll do the same next week. The house also pitched in to get Hair Razors on campus, while Gamma Phi Beta has been in charge of drumming up publicity for the effort.
