Schenectady reborn

The heart of the Electric City was failing. As the 1990s ended, the downtown district near State and Jay streets had little to offer beyond a slice of pizza and a few shops. Yet today, as the major commercial pieces of downtown Schenectady from Proctors Theatre to campus are renovated and rebuilt, a lively college town is emerging.

Union featured in Southwest Airlines magazine

Union is featured in the December issue of Spirit, the in-flight magazine for Southwest Airlines.

The College is mentioned in a profile highlighting the Capital Region’s top business, medical and educational offerings.

“One college leading the way is Union College, an independent liberal arts school that prides itself on shaping students into captains of nearly every industry, from politics and the sciences to entertainment and publishing,” the profile states. “With alumni that have included Cosmopolitan’s editor-in-chief Kate White, the president and COO of Warner Brothers Alan Horn, R. Gordon Gould (one of the inventors of the laser) and Chester Arthur (the 21st U.S. president), Union College continues to follow the same tradition to which the entire Albany region adheres: to strive for leadership.”

The College is also featured in a full-page ad in the “Business Focus” section of the magazine, which claims to reach 3.2 million travelers each issue.
