A “topping off” ceremony – placement of the final steel beam – for the Peter Irving Wold Center for Science and Engineering will be held Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. in the courtyard adjoining the Reamer Campus Center and the F.W. Olin Center. This traditional builders' custom is meant to symbolize growth and good luck.
In keeping with tradition, all members of the Union community and alumni family are invited to sign the beam beforehand. It will be available at Reamer Tuesday, Jan. 19, 9 a.m.- 6 p.m., and Wednesday morning, 9 a.m.-11 a.m.
Hot beverages will be available in the Olin Center Rotunda before the ceremony. In case of bad weather, the ceremony will be held at Schaffer Library.
The three-story, 35,000-square-foot research and education facility is slated for completion next year.
