Trevor Koenig, Class of 1998, is still setting records. Koenig, who established the ECAC Division I standard for consecutive scoreless minutes at 198:44 (a record that still stands) during his sensational junior campaign, has not allowed a goal in the past 186:46 minutes, a new West Coast Hockey League record.
Koenig, who plays for the San Diego Gulls, leads the WCHL with his 1.96 goals against average, his 22 wins (22-7-1) and his .927 save percentage. His four shutouts also top the circuit.
A four-year standout for the Skating Dutchmen, Koenig holds several Garnet records including career GAA (2.86), career save percentage (.913) and career shutouts (9).
Trevor was named the ECAC's Ken Dryden Award winner as the league's “Outstanding Goaltender” following the 1996-97 season after leading the country in both save percentage (.931) and goals against average (2.03). He was also named as the Dutchmen's first (and only) national All-American after leading Union to the best record in their 10-year Division I history at 15-11-2.

This year's title is wide open as defending champion Hamilton will not be attending the meet. The Lady Continentals will be competing in the New England Small College Athletic Conference championships at Wesleyan. Ithaca, which finished second last year, Hartwick (third), Union (fourth) and Rensselaer (seventh) are the four teams expected to challenge for the crown in this year's 14-team field.

Le Moyne and Nazareth, which placed fifth and seventh, respectively, a year ago, are considered dark horses. “This is a wide open meet,” said Union head coach Judy Wolfe. “The top six teams have a nucleus of strong swimmers but none of them have an overpowering lineup.” Union, which won the title in 1990 and again in 1994, has finished fourth the last two seasons.

The Dutchwomen's championship hopes will depend on the performance's of the team's middle distance freestylers. According to Wolfe, her team should do wellin the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle events as well as in the 200, 400 and 800 free relays. “The relays are worth 64 points each while an individual winner earns 32 team points,” Wolfe explained. “How well we finish will depend on the outcomes of the freestyle events.”
