Both the Union softball and women's lacrosse teams will be in action in the NCAA's, and you will be able to listen to all the action. The games will be broadcast over the web, at the following link:

The Union softball team will play in the 2005 NCAA Division III Championship Regionals, hosted by Ithaca College. The Dutchwomen will begin play Friday, May 13 vs. either Ithaca or Misericordia at 2 p.m. The second game of the regionals for Union will be Saturday, May 14 at either 10 a.m. or 2 p.m., and play will continue later Saturday, as well as Sunday, May 15 and Monday, May 16, however long Union advances in the double-elimination tournament.

Join Union Sports Information Director Eric McDowell, as he provides the call of all of Union's softball regional games, beginning 15 minutes prior to the first pitch.

The Union women's lacrosse team will compete in the 2005 NCAA Division III Championship Regionals, hosted by Colorado College in Colorado Springs. The Dutchwomen will play Saturday, May 14 vs. the host school, Colorado College, at 2:30 p.m. local time, 4:30 p.m. Eastern. If Union wins that contest, they will face either Cortland or Cabrini at 1 p.m. local time, 3 p.m. Eastern, on Sunday, May 15.

Join Union Assistant Sports Information Director Peter DiSanza for all the women's lacrosse action, beginning 15 minutes prior to the game.

Should the teams be playing at the same time on Saturday, there will be two web links so you can switch back and forth, and there will also be options on the phone call to switch back and forth between games.

Admissions officers will host two interactive sessions for the campus community – “Recruiting Quality and Diversity” – on Wednesday, May 18, at noon and 4 p.m. in the Reamer Campus Center Auditorium.

Dan Lundquist, vice president for admissions, and other Grant Hall staffers will explain “what we do, why we do it, how we do it”

The sessions will feature a statistical and historical overview; targeting audiences and messages; prospect generation; off- and on-campus outreach; alumni, faculty, staff and student support; and the role of financial aid.

The Union College softball team, ranked #8 in the latest NFCA poll, is the top seed for the NCAA Division III Softball Championship regionals to be held in Ithaca, NY. The Dutchwomen (30-4) will face either Ithaca or Misericordia Friday, May 13 at 2 p.m. The regionals will continue through Sunday, May 15, with a rain date scheduled for Monday, May 16.

Other teams joining Union at this regional are #2 seed Cortland (31-9), #3 Western New England (37-4), #4 Misericordia (30-9), #5 Ithaca (24-11) and #6 King's (31-10). Friday's first game features Ithaca vs. Misericordia at 10 a.m., followed by Western New England vs. King's at 12 p.m. After Union's game against the Game One winner, Cortland will face the winner of the Western New England-King's contest at 4 p.m. Friday.

Top-seed Union is ranked eighth in the nation, the highest ranking in the program's history, and enters the NCAA's with a school record 30 victories. The Dutchwomen have won 27 of the last 28 games, and rank in the top 10 nationally in batting (.346), ERA (0.74) and winning percentage (.882). Junior outfielder Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) is batting .468 and has 13 doubles, and her 42 RBIs ranks her in the top 15 nationally. Freshman outfielder Kelly Owings (Oswego, NY/Oswego) is hitting .446 and has 11 stolen bases. Union has had outstanding seasons from two junior pitchers. Abby Arceneaux (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) is 14-2 with a 0.73 ERA and has 134 strikeouts in 105 innings. Jackie Coffey (Boston, MA/Boston), a three-time Liberty League Pitcher of the Week, enters the NCAA's with a 15-game winning streak and is 16-2 with a 0.75 ERA. This is Union's third NCAA softball tournament appearance all-time, and third straight.

College Misericordia, located in Dallas, PA, won the automatic bid from the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. The CM Cougars are ranked 12th in NCAA Division III in battign at .348, and 20th in scoring with an average of 6.58 runs per contest. Catcher Jennifer Gehman is fourth in the country in hitting with a .512 average in 39 games. She also has eight triples, (ranked 14th), is slugging at .845 (18th) and has 48 runs scored (13th). Kristi Devins is 17-3 with a 1.13 ERA.

Ithaca won the Empire 8 Conference championship and automatic NCAA bid. The Bombers reached the championship round of the NCAA regionals last season, and won the 2002 national championship. Second baseman Jessica Stangarone is hitting .359 in 35 games, and outfielder Leigh Bonkowski is ranked 14th in the country in home runs with eight on the year. Freshman Carly Myers is 16-4 with a 0.98 ERA for the Bombers.

There are 43 teams competing in this year's tournament. The winners of the eight regionals will compete in the finals, May 20-24 at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, North Carolina. The event will be hosted by Peace College.

The Union College women's lacrosse team, 13-3 and ranked #16 in the IWLCA poll, will face #5 Colorado College (10-1) in the regionals of the 2005 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship. The game will be played Saturday, May 14 at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO at 2:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. Eastern). In the other regional game at that site, host Cortland (17-1) will face Cabrini (12-6) at 11:30 a.m. local time. The winners will play for the regional title Sunday, May 15 at 1 p.m. (3 p.m. Eastern time) at Colorado College, the new site (the event was moved from Cortland, NY).

Union brings a 12-game winning streak into the tournament. This is the seventh time in eight years that Union will compete in a post-season tournament. The Dutchwomen have also competed in the NCAA's in 1999 and 2002. Union won the Liberty League's automatic NCAA bid Sunday at home with an 18-6 victory over St. Lawrence in the league's championship game. Senior midfielder Molly Flanagan (Simsbury, CT/Loomis Chaffee) was the US Lacrosse pre-season Player of the Year, and also won the Liberty League Player of the Year honors last week. She leads the Dutchwomen with 51 goals, 17 assists and 68 points, as well as 121 shots, 95 shots on net, 65 ground balls and 56 caused turnovers. She ranks ninth in the nation in caused turnovers. Senior Kathy Dolezal (Clearwater, FL/Williston Northampton) has 43 goals and 50 points with an .806 shot on goal percentage. Goaltender Rachel Beckman (Needham, MA/Needham) has a 7.74 goals against average and a 10-3 record on the season.

Colorado College had opened the season with 10 straight victories until losing to Division I Denver in the final game of the regular season on April 30. This is CC's fourth straight appearance in the tournament. The Tigers and Dutchwomen have one common opponent on their schedules. Union lost to Colby, 10-8 in the season opener on March 21 in Florida, while CC was a 15-8 victor over Colby on April 21 in Maine. The Tigers received one of six at-large selections to the 19-team field. CC ranks 11th in NCAA Division III in ground balls per game (32.6) and 13th in scoring with an average of 13.6 goals per game. Attack Kate Fitzgerald has team highs in goals with 29 and points with 41, while attack Jen Alpern has 19 assists. Goaltender Alana Dalton has an 8.00 GAA and 9-1 record in 11 games this spring.

Play begins with first round games Wednesday, May 11 on campus sites, and the regionals are May 14-15 on campus sites. The College of New Jersey will host the Finals on May 21-22.

Union College Student Forum will conduct the annual election of its Executive Board on Wednesday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Reamer Campus Center. All students, including seniors, are eligible to vote.

Running for president are Amanda Goodman '06 and Brian Gulack '07. Colin Farrill '07 and Mike Grady '07 are running for junior trustee. Competing for vice president of academics are Nell Alk '06 and Albert Vanderlaan '07. Charles Sumpter '07 is running unopposed for vice president of administration. Competing for the position of vice president of campus life are Alex Chomut '06 and Mary Olushoga '06. Derek Johndrow '07 and Garrett Lunden '06 are running for vice president of finance. Candidates for vice president of multicultural affairs are Francisco “Cisco” Ferrer '06 and Na'eem Muhammad '08.
