The week began with an Adirondack Week Kick-Off Fair on the front lawn of Reamer Campus Center featuring a rock climbing wall, live music, entertainment, and refreshments. Monday evening, Jillmarie Murphy, professor of English and American Literature held a presentation at the Kelly Center titled “Analeptic Sublime: Land Attachment and Attention Restoration in Joel Tyler Headley’s Adirondack; or, Life in the Woods“.
Tuesday, May 6
Tuesday’s events began with a guided walk through the Reist Sanctuary. Afterwards, art collector Stu Cartwright ’81 hosted an art exhibition at the Kelly Adirondack Center and led a discussion titled “An Adirondack Aesthetic: Paintings of Lake George 1860-1890”.
Wednesday, May 7
On Wednesday, Chef Stephen Topper and Historian Hallie Bond presented “A taste of the Adirondacks”. Topper, who has worked as a chef in several of the finest restaurants in the Adirondack region, prepared three classic Adirondack foods for the audience to sample. Meanwhile, Bond, former curator of the Adirondack Museum, shared historic stories about the region.
Thursday, May 8
The Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act took place on Thursday with keynote speakers Ed Zahniser and Chad P. Dawson. One of the Kelly Adirondack Center’s largest events to date with over 100+ attendees, this celebration was truly one to be remembered.
