After the American Revolution, many new settlers ventured into the Adirondack wilderness and thus initiated a new age where the relationship between man and nature would become tantamount to the survival of both. Pearsall’s book tells the stories of some of these early Adirondackers as they began new lives filled with unbridled hope and dreams of riches to be made and the often harsh realities they encountered.
In When Men and Mountains Meet, (2013) Pearsall includes extensive research on the earliest attempts by Europeans to explore and develop the Adirondacks. His research fills an important void in Adirondack literature too long overlooked. It was nominated for the 2014 American Association of State and Local History Leadership Award after a review by four PhDs in History, and named an “National Finalist”.
