Join us Monday, September 23rd at 5:30pm for a conversation with Michale Glennon, Senior Research Scientist for the Paul Smith’s College Adirondack Watershed Institute and creator of Wool and Water, a unique project that blends fiber art with scientific data to create visual representations of water quality conditions in the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain Basin. Launched in 2022 in association with the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act and supported by the Lake Champlain Basin Program, this innovative and collaborative approach to environmental education invites participants to be a part of the effort and to use knitting, crochet, weaving and other fiber arts to learn about the health of our waterways, the challenges that face them, and how best to care for them. A physical and virtual exhibit now contains more than 70 pieces that highlight everything from climate change to invasive species to harmful algal blooms. Join us to look at some of the pieces that have been created, talk about what they mean for regional water quality, and hear from Michale how others can get involved in this project. Michale is a wildlife ecologist and has conducted ecological research in the Adirondack Park for more than two decades; she has been knitting for almost four.
