In 1869 William H. H. Murray published a book containing a series of articles on the merits of camping in the wilderness of the Adirondacks. His combination of practical advice and fantastic stories would encourage thousands of urbanites to seek both rest and adventure in the woods and on the waters of the Adirondacks. The success of this book led to others and a lecture tour that reached tens of thousands of attendees over five years.

This exhibit includes paintings, prints, glass slides, and drawings of Murray’s. Also on display are Murray’s desk and ephemera from his life and travels.
