LabSpec is the software that runs most of the Horiba CL system. It handles instrument control, data acquisition, and data processing. It can control the SEM stage to acquire large-area composite images. It can acquire spectra (CCD), images using selected spectrum bands (PMT2), and “hyperspectral” maps (CCD) where each pixel is a spectrum and different spectrum bands can later be used for color coding the map (big files, though). LabSpec does not handle image acquisition from PMT1, that is done through the SEM software and Horiba control box next to the keyboard.
The software looks daunting, but luckily you don’t have to use most of it for basic work. The image above shows the software interface, with the basic terminalogy that I use on these instructional pages, and the parts you will use to get started. The right-hand stuff is menus and sub-menus. Tabs are in the upper-left. Buttons are all over the place.
These are the parts you actually have to use for basic things described on these web pages. These things include centering the mirror, acquiring spectra, and such. For example, these tasks use only the Acquisition and Maintenance menus, not all of them.
