Philips XRD

This XRD is currently broken, and so isn’t available for use. If we ever fix it, I’ll amend this page.

Use this XRD instead

We have a “tabletop” Phillips PW-1840 X-ray diffractometer. This is a (more or less) computer controlled instrument, with data acquisition via MDI Datascan software. The goniometer has an automatic divergence slit, a solid state (silicon) detector, and a scan range of ~0 to ~120°2Θ. It is currently equipped with a copper tube using a nickel filter. Samples can be prepared as smears on short glass slides (about 5 mm shorter than a typical petrographic microscope slide) or pressed into a shallow well in aluminum holders. We also have MDI Jade+ version 6.0 software for data processing, including peak search and match capabilities using the installed ICDD PDF-2 (1996) powder diffraction file database.
