Navigation and Menus

The Navigation Menu usually appears in the header
and contains links to your pages and posts.

Spend some time thinking about how you want to set up the navigation for your site.  Think of your menu as a bulleted list or outline of your pages and categories/posts. I know it will feel backwards, but your menu is just a list of links so your pages and posts must be created first before you can create your menu.

Things to consider:

Simple and uncluttered is always better. Try not to have more than one row of menu items.

Try not to have any links that don’t go anywhere.

Consider ways to organize your information before you even begin making categories/posts and pages. Think about main items and sub-items in a drop-down menu as opposed to too many single items.

Do you want to have any sort of menu in the sidebar? Or in the footer? These can be different menus than your main navigation menu in the header. The number of menus and their locations may be limited and/or dictated by the theme that you’ve chosen.
